About Me

I, Hershel Jackson, MA, LPC, follow and will uphold the Code of Ethics of the American Counseling Association, along with the Michigan Board of Counseling.

Description of Practice:
Assessment, individual, family, and group counseling services provided to adolescents and adults with substance abuse, transitional, mental health issues, grief and loss, and interpersonal challenges. Also providing counseling services regarding relationship, marital, and divorce. The primary theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, with Person-Centered and Existential elements included. Sessions will be confidential, but there may be special cases when confidentiality has to be breached for either legal situations or the safety of the client and/or others.

Education & Experience:
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, # 6401011422 State of Michigan – LARA Bureau of Professional Licensing. Educational experience includes a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology awarded from Wayne State University and a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling (Community) awarded by the University of Detroit Mercy. Relevant work experience includes providing case management services to clients’ with mental illness and substance abuse, client contact, and identifying client barriers. Currently employed through the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Program. Documentation experience with progress notes, conducting assessments, and Person-Centered Plans. Practicum experience includes completion of a 15-week practicum experience at the University of Detroit Mercy Counseling Clinic, a fully operational Clinic open to the general public in which individuals with a variety of mental health and substance abuse needs were served and a 600 hour internship at the John D. Dingell Department of Veterans Affairs providing therapy for war veterans receiving medical and/or mental health services.
