About Me

Hello, my name is Alicia Sauers, and I’m glad you’re here.
I’ve worked in the mental health field for over 20 years, with the past six years focused specifically on counseling. My passion for this work began in my teenage years, which led me to study psychology at Grand Valley State University and later earn my Master’s degree in counseling from Spring Arbor University.
In our work together, I see counseling as a collaborative process. My role is to support you in exploring past experiences, understanding what may be holding you back, and helping you refocus on what’s possible. From there, we’ll take practical, meaningful steps forward at a pace that feels right for you.
I work with individuals of all ages and have experience supporting people through a wide range of concerns, including stress, anxiety, depression, and major life changes. I also have a strong focus on family support and helping people navigate relationships and life transitions.
One of my greatest strengths as a counselor is flexibility. I meet people where they are, without judgment, and adapt to the unique challenges each person brings. Whether you’re working through long-standing struggles or something more immediate, I aim to create a space that feels comfortable, respectful, and safe.
Clients often find that I’m an empathetic listener who helps them reframe and refocus their thoughts in a way that feels empowering. Building trust is very important to me, and I strive to create an environment where you feel heard and understood, and where you can openly express yourself.
I find the most joy in helping people heal, grow, and rediscover a sense of joy in their lives. I believe that each person has the ability to create meaningful change. Together, we’ll work on identifying what you can and cannot control, strengthening your ability to cope with difficult emotions, and helping you develop the tools to stand up for yourself and move forward with confidence.
My goal is to help you recognize your own strength—to become your own advocate and your own source of change—not only for yourself, but in the way you show up for others as well.
Kindness and respect are at the core of everything I do, and I look forward to supporting you on your journey.
