About Me

Joanna Kass, APRN, PMHNP BC, is a board certified psychiatric nurse practitioner providing outpatient mental health care for adults in Yarmouth, Maine. She specializes in addiction and substance use treatment, co-occurring disorders and mood and anxiety conditions through medication management and integrated psychiatric care.

Working within Cousins Island Counseling and Psychiatry Services, Joanna offers trauma informed, harm reduction focused treatment in a collaborative, multidisciplinary setting that meets clients where they are.

Substance Use and Co-Occurring Disorder Treatment

Joanna’s core focus is supporting adults navigating substance use, recovery and dual diagnosis concerns. She offers psychiatric evaluation, medication management and medication assisted treatment within a harm reduction framework that prioritizes nonjudgmental, client centered care.

Treatment integrates evidence based approaches including acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) and motivational interviewing to address both substance use and underlying mental health conditions. Sessions focus on reducing barriers to recovery, building coping skills and supporting long term wellness through compassionate, individualized psychiatric care.

Affirming, Accessible Mental Health Care

Joanna provides explicitly affirming care for LGBTQIA+ individuals and allied communities, including transgender and nonbinary clients, people living with HIV/AIDS and other marginalized groups. Her trauma informed, strengths based approach creates a safe space for healing across diverse identities and life experiences.
