Learn MoreAbout Me
I hold a doctorate in Social Work, and I am a Veteran Marine. I am licensed in SC, TN and MD with more than 30 years of experience. I worked with Mental health for 8 years (abused children and adolescents, foster children, women with dual diagnoses, and sexually aggressive youth. I worked 8 years with adolescents in the juvenile justice system and since 2010 with the Department of Defense at a Military prison addressing issues of anxiety, depression, PTSD, relationships, trauma. violence, sexual offenses and loss. In the past 5 years I have treated those dealing with chronic pain, diabetes, OCD and a variety of other health and life transition concerns.
My counseling style is caring but honest and real. I believe in treating everyone with respect but holding people accountable for their growth and changes. I want to know you before I read your history, because I believe I learn who you are by talking to and getting to know you not by reading about you. I don’t believe people are their diagnosis, rather living with a diagnosis. My approach is eclectic using a combination of cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, breathing exercises, motivational interviewing, person and solution focused treatment modalities and humor. I don’t believe one size fits all. I believe in short term therapy and setting and working toward goals. I don’t think you have to be in therapy for years to improve your quality of life.
I am not for everyone, I believe in encouragement in treatment and I understand setbacks. I don’t have a magic wand so if you have tried and done “EVERYTHING” then I’m probably not for you, but if you are willing to do the work to identify your areas of concern and your strengths, show up to your treatment ready to do the work to become the person you want to be and laugh then I just might be for you.
I am ready to guide you, coach you, motivate you and cheer you on to the be the better you that you seek.
