Welcome! I’m passionate about helping people reconnect with their authentic selves and create meaningful, lasting change. I work with adults navigating a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma (including abuse), disordered eating, grief, stress, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges, and life transitions. I also have experience supporting individuals with mood and personality disorders, substance use, self-harm, and suicidal ideation. I’m a Nationally Board-Certified Counselor and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Montana. I hold a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a concentration in addiction from Walden University. My approach is primarily person-centered, meaning I view therapy as a collaborative, empowering process. You are the expert on your life—I’m here to walk alongside you with support, guidance, and compassion. Healing begins when people feel safe, seen, and respected. In our work together, I integrate somatic, relational, and attachment-based practices with evidence-based modalities such as CBT, DBT, TF-CBT, existential therapy, mindfulness, crisis intervention, psychoeducation, and solution-focused therapy. I also incorporate holistic elements—like breathwork, gentle movement, meditation, and grounding techniques—when appropriate. I believe healing often involves learning to listen to your body, reconnect with your intuition, and rebuild trust in your inner voice, especially when it has been dismissed or overshadowed by past experiences. Everything we do in therapy is tailored to your needs, your pace, and your comfort. I am certified in Telehealth Therapy (THTC) and currently provide online counseling services. ⸻ Practice Hours & Communication My availability is Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM (MST). I typically respond to messages at least twice daily—once in the morning and once in the evening—and often more frequently when possible. You’re also welcome to schedule live audio or live chat sessions in advance. Please note: I do not offer video sessions. This allows for a comfortable, flexible, and accessible space where you can share openly and reflect without pressure. ⸻ Important Safety Information BetterHelp is not intended for crisis situations or immediate safety needs. If you are experiencing suicidal thoughts, considering harming yourself or others, or facing an emergency, please seek in-person help or call emergency services immediately: • U.S. – Call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline). You can also reach the previous number at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). • U.K. – Call 111, Option 2 for mental health support, or contact the Samaritans at 116 123. You may also text “DESERVE” to 85258 to reach trained volunteers. ⸻ If You Are Experiencing Domestic Violence or Relationship Abuse Call the U.S. National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) for confidential crisis intervention and referrals to shelters and support services. You can also visit the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence for resources, including safety planning, shelter access, and legal aid. Relationship abuse involves one partner exerting power and control over the other. This can include physical violence, coercion, manipulation, or controlling behaviors. Recognizing these dynamics can be the first step toward safety and healing. ⸻ I look forward to supporting you on your journey toward healing and wellness.

Tonya Carpenter

Butte, Montana - Clinical Social Worker/therapist
Online

Hello! My name is Tonya Carpenter and I am licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) in the state of Montana. I am currently at Aware, and was previously in private practice for six years. I provided counseling services in a hospital clinical setting for three years prior to private practice. I have also worked in the school setting as a behavior intervention specialist for grades 6-12, and worked with adults with disabilities. I received my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Southern California with an emphasis in Military and Veterans Affairs. As a veteran myself, I understand the importance of supporting our service members. I have a fairly direct and up front approach as I would rather ask a question directly than assume things are a certain way. I am able to do this while maintaining a warm, nonjudgmental approach with clients. I believe that no one is "broken" and needs to be "fixed" as I hear so many clients say, but that every person is operating in their environment the best way they know how with the tools they have. I would like to be able to go through the journey with you of creating the best quality of life possible. I am able to help clients with co-occurring disorders, substance use, PTSD, depression, anxiety, Bipolar, child abuse and neglect, communication, anger management, and other diagnosis or life stressors, but have a primary focus in trauma and military affairs. I utilize a client centered, strengths based, solution-focused approach to meet the client where they are. I also utilize evidenced based practices such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy. I am certified in EMDR (eye movement desensitization reprocessing), MRT (moral reconation therapy), trauma-focused CBT, and trauma narratives. I will respond to messages within 24 hours Monday through Friday, and will do my best to accommodate you for scheduling live sessions but currently have limited availability in the evenings and some weekends. I look forward to working with you!

Mary Geiger

Butte, Montana - Licensed Professional Counselor
Online

I am currently a licensed Counselor in Montana, Texas, and Arizona specializing in mental health issues along with issues dealing with substance abuse and addictions. I have a private practice where I offer services to adults, adolescents, children, and families. I worked for 10 years as a clinical director in a Department of Corrections setting providing substance abuse and mental health treatment for individuals with Felony DUI's. My expertise is in working with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and also in helping children deal with trauma. While I work in the corrections setting during the day, I have a private practice, where I work with families, couples, individuals including adults, teens and children. Living in rural Montana, I enjoy working with a wide variety of clients with various mental health concerns. My counseling style is empathetic in nature. I begin by getting to know my client and what will work best for them. The most frequent orientations that I utilize include cognitive-behavioral therapy, person centered, family systems, and mindfulness. I use an eclectic array of techniques that will be determined with the client and then utilized to develop a treatment plan unique to the client's concerns. I am trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and provide EMDR to clients that it is appropriate with through evaluation. Counseling is a process that can be very beneficial to help address various aspects of a person's life. I look forward to building a therapeutic relationship where we can work together to meet your needs. A little bit about me outside of Betterhelp. I enjoy being a grandmother to 5 grandchildren (and 1 on the way) and spending as much time with them as I can. I also am an avid traveler and have goals to visit as many countries as I can in the future. I enjoy planning my travels as much as I do the traveling part, so I am always planning for some future trip. If I can be outside, hiking and enjoying nature, I am, one of the many blessings of living in Montana.
