Hello! My name is Nicki, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor for clients located in Florida. I have nine years of experience providing therapy in residential addiction treatment, prison, and individuals online. I have worked with patients and clients with widely varying presenting problems including anxiety, depression, ADHD, low self-worth, codependency, family/relationship issues, and trauma, to name a few in addition to addiction. I have helped people learn healthy coping skills to reduce maladaptive strategies such as substance use, self harm, negative thought, and other self-defeating behaviors, and begin to build satisfying lives for themselves. I grew up in Michigan, and explored unrelated career paths while moving through my life and relocating eventually to Florida. Life experience inspired me to my destination as a therapist, and in mid-life I earned my BA in Psychology and MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling online. I am now living in Michigan and am grateful for the portability of telemental health! I have found that people need a safe person to share their innermost experiences with and to be met with unconditional positive regard to break the barriers that stand in the way of progress toward improved mental well-being. I approach therapy with a client-centered orientation with the ability to adjust with appropriate modalities to clients' needs as they are presented, with the goal of increasing clients' understanding and acceptance of and compassion toward themselves. I enjoy learning about others' experiences and interacting in a fun yet soothing way. Exploration of experiences without negative judgment can lead to amazing and meaningful change! While therapy is a very satisfying occupation, I also enjoy making a multitude of things, reading, movies, organizing, and spending time being silly with family.

My guess is you hate the person in the mirror because they are so different from what you pictured for yourself by now. You don't know how anyone else could love you because you can't even stand yourself. Are you lost in life and searching for purpose? Maybe you've lost that initial spark in your relationship and are desperately trying to get that feeling back. Or stuck in a rut at your job and just want to quit. You overthink everything and somehow you accomplish nothing. Life has got you overwhelmed, exhausted, unmotivated, hopeless and wondering why you even get out of bed in the morning. Are you getting in your own way? Imagine one day you wake up motivated for your dream job, you actually smile back at the person in the mirror, you are surrounded by people who light your fire all day, and you get excited for the life you created after work. That's what it feels like when you have developed self-worth. It takes a brave soul to get in touch with one's vulberabilities, but if you do that you will better understand what you truly need and how to effectively get it. The first step is learning to love and take better care of yourself. It's time to put you first! I have worked in a range of settings (community, residential, private practice) for the last 6 years. I have intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy which helps clients better regulate their emotions and work well with others. My specialty is working on mindfulness and mind/body connection because I believe that when we take some time to listen to our bodies, we find the ability to better take care of ourselves and truly understand what we need. I believe in the importance of self-care and self-love which will ultimately attract the life you want and help improve relationships with others. When we allow ourselves to embrace our vulnerabilities, we can come out on top as stronger, more confident individuals and accomplish our goals. My strongest specialties include helping clients improve self-esteem, understanding the weight loss journey, anxiety management, identity issues, and relationship issues. I can help you because I was that person above once. I've done the transformation myself and have the DBT and mindfulness skills that will teach you how to love yourself, work well with others, handle your emotions, and attract the life you want. Together we will discover ways to be more comfortable being you and better able to navigate the stressors surrounding you.

Welcome! I am a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) in Florida, where I have been working professionally since 2014. My expertise has run the gambit from supplemental counseling utilizing animals as therapeutic tools, assessing and psychoeducating individuals involuntarily committed into inpatient facilities, and supporting incarcerated persons in learning to move on from poor decisions. I have worked with those who nearly lost hope in being able to live a gratifying and fulfilled life as a result of being diagnosed with psychiatric disorders, experiencing the negative consequences of impulsive choices, and coping with obstacles beyond their control. I truly believe all life experiences and personal qualities can be used as strengths and gifts, as long as you are viewing them from the right perspective. It is my goal as a counselor to provide the support, education, and confidence necessary in order for my clients to find their “right” perspectives. I tend to primarily operate within the experiential therapeutic modality in my practice; meaning, I subscribe to the belief where the work and growth is most effective when done in the “here and now.” While I employ tools and techniques from a multitude of other psychological models, such as CBT, solution-focused, humanistic, psychodynamic, behavioral, and emotional theories in my craft; I feel sessions are most impactful when my clients are able to experience positive gains in the present moment. Even though I counsel through an experiential lens, I practice with the conviction where the therapeutic relationship is most successful when it is person-centered. This means I meet my client where they are cognitively, emotionally, and in their willingness to change. You are the expert in yourself, and I am the expert in making myself the best “tool” with regard to empowering you to become your “best” self. The counseling field has allowed me to seamlessly merge several of my passions: helping people, learning, and tackling challenges. In order to be the best therapist I am capable of being, I regularly attend classes, read pertinent literature, and network with peers in my field. This allows me to stay up to date on the most current tools, techniques, ethical, and legal guidelines in the therapeutic discipline. In my experience, counseling is most productive when it is being done in a safe and supportive environment. With that in mind, I always encourage my clients to remember these are their sessions, so I welcome all feedback regarding what is and is not helpful to them. While I encourage my clients to remain unguarded and honest in their communication with me, I also urge them to be open-minded to exploring and learning alternative viewpoints. I endorse the belief where human beings are meant to continue growing throughout the entirety of their lives in order to experience all of the benefits their world has to offer. I feel honored when someone trusts me with being able to facilitate them in achieving their goals and creating their desired life. I would feel privileged should you choose me to assist you in doing the same! I am very much excited to start working with you now, and in the future!
