About Me

Hello, and welcome.

My name is Myhosi “Josie” Ashton, and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with more than 30 years of experience working in trauma recovery, crisis intervention, domestic violence, grief, life transitions, and emotional healing. I have worked with individuals from many walks of life, including survivors of childhood trauma, domestic violence, sexual abuse, incarceration, immigration-related stress, anxiety, depression, and complex family dynamics.

My approach to therapy is compassionate, culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, and grounded in helping people understand not only what happened to them, but how those experiences shaped the way they think, feel, love, trust, and survive.

Throughout my career, I have worked within the criminal justice system, victim advocacy programs, community mental health settings, and correctional mental health services. I have also provided support to survivors navigating immigration-related trauma, relationship wounds, grief, identity struggles, and emotional burnout.

I use a combination of evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, mindfulness, emotional regulation techniques, narrative therapy, and strength-based counseling. However, I strongly believe therapy is not “one-size-fits-all.” Every person deserves to feel seen, heard, and respected in the healing process.

As someone who deeply understands resilience, I strive to create a safe and nonjudgmental space where clients can process pain, rebuild self-worth, establish healthy boundaries, and reconnect with hope.

Whether you are struggling with trauma, anxiety, relationship challenges, life stressors, or simply trying to understand yourself better, you do not have to walk through it alone.

Healing is possible.
