About Me

Tab Ballis is a licensed clinical social worker, licensed clinical addictions specialist, certified clinical supervisor and faculty member of the University of North Carolina Wilmington School of Social Work. He practices with Insight Wellness Services based in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Sessions are available in person and online. He accepts self payment and a variety of insurance providers. A sliding fee scale is possible for those who qualify, depending on financial need.

35 Years of Dual Diagnosis Expertise

Tab has been in practice for 35 years. He has specific expertise in the treatment of substance abuse and compulsive behaviors. He has developed an innovative assessment tool, the GATE Model, that helps individuals and families recognize risk factors for addiction. He also offers couples counseling, assisting partners in finding common ground during trying times.

Collaborative CBT and SFBT

I’m impressed by his collaborative approach to therapy, working with clients to clarify their roles in relationships, family and community. He incorporates a range of interactive and experiential techniques, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and solution focused brief therapy (SFBT), emphasizing strengths and resources rather than pathology. He uses contemplation and creative expression as well, helping clients gain a fresh perspective through focused work that brings sustainable results.
