Tristan Howard is a licensed therapist with Matone Counseling in Asheville, North Carolina offering individual therapy for adults. Using relational cultural theory, acceptance and commitment therapy and internal family systems, Tristan specializes in anxiety and depression, trauma and mood disorders, substance use concerns and relationship challenges, with affirming support for neurodivergent and LGBTQIA2S+ clients. Tristan brings a warm, compassionate and nonjudgmental presence rooted in the belief that connection and understanding can transform old survival patterns into more authentic coping.

Tristan provides individual therapy for adults using relational cultural theory, acceptance and commitment therapy, internal family systems and experiential interventions. These approaches address anxiety, depression and trauma, mood disorders and substance misuse, codependency and relationship concerns through a connection-oriented, systemic lens rather than a one size fits all model.
Who can get help here?
Tristan works exclusively with adults ages 18 and older. The practice offers specialized, affirming care for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals, people with minoritized gender identities and clients from marginalized communities including sex workers, people living with HIV/AIDS, Deaf and Blind clients and racial justice advocates.
Where is the practice located?
Tristan sees clients at the Central Asheville office at 77 Central Ave Unit D, with plenty of free parking available. Both in person and secure online therapy sessions are offered for clients throughout North Carolina.
Do you take insurance?
Tristan accepts Aetna, BlueCross BlueShield and Carolina Behavioral Health Alliance, Cigna and MedCost, Medicaid and VA Community Care Network. Individual sessions are $130, with a sliding scale available, and out of network clients receive documentation for potential reimbursement.
